April: Balancing Stress

THU APR 15, 2021

Hello Friends!

Spring is officially here!

Did you know that April is stress awareness month? Although stress is a normal part of life, there is good and bad stress. Chronic stress can be bad for our bodies and cause health problems. It is important that we mindfully manage our stress.

Some stress is good for us, we call this eustress. Eustress can motivate us if we have goals or intentions that are attainable. Eustress turns our fight/flight response into a rest/digest response, thus lowering our cortisol levels. According to Psychology Today, good types of stress might include travel, making change, trying new things, and falling in love. In Yin yoga we stress our tissues, this builds collagen and is good for joint lubrication so that is good stress!

Bad stress is what we need to manage. This type of stress can raise cortisol levels, which can weaken our immune system thus causing more frequent illness. Over the long term, chronic stress can wreak havoc on your adrenals which can lead to adrenal fatigue.

Let’s work together to lower stress and cortisol levels, so we can stay healthy and strong!

Ways you can lower your stress:

Low-impact Physical Exercise

Gratitude Practice

Social Connection (even Zoom helps)

Music, Art, or Dance
